Ensuring safety through product stewardship
Product stewardship is the foundation of our commitment to safe and sustainable solutions. It ensures that every product we manufacture and deliver meets or exceeds global health, safety, and environmental requirements. By embedding stewardship practices into product innovation and management, we anticipate regulatory developments early and reduce risks across the value chain.
Key actions include
- Ensuring compliance with frameworks such as Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), and Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP)
- Avoiding and phasing out Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs)
- Promoting safe handling and use through transparent communication and training
- Supporting non-animal testing innovations and harmonized product classification
- Integrating stewardship into both new product innovation and the assessment of the existing portfolio

Innovating via our Clariant Portfolio Value Program (PVP)
Building on stewardship, Clariant goes further by systematically steering its product and project portfolio through the Portfolio Value Program (PVP). This tool assesses the portfolio against key sustainability criteria covering and anticipating regulations, customer needs, and societal expectations.
How PVP works:
- Evaluates our products across all life cycle phases in key sustainability criteria both in absolute and relative terms
- Categorizes products into EcoTain, Sustainable, Transitional, or Non-Sustainable
- Directs R&D toward sustainable innovation
- Provides transparent performance tracking against KPIs
More than a decade after its launch, PVP is continuously evolving. Today it enables real-time portfolio analysis, integrates sales insights, and gives Clariant the agility to respond quickly to market and regulatory changes. This makes it one of the leading tools in the industry for guiding the transition to safer, more sustainable solutions.
