Low carbon solutions for the carbon challenge

As our climate gives us increasing and alarming signals of change, individuals and industries are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprints and the demand for sustainable and in particular low carbon chemicals is growing strongly. Clariant is committed to fostering the transition to a sustainable bioeconomy and has a growing share of biobased products in its portfolio. One step is this transition is the portfolio integration and expansion of fully bio-based ethylene oxide derivates in the Home Care segment.

Maximizing bio-based carbon content without compromising cleaning performance

Home care formulators no longer need to choose between high cleaning performance and a strong sustainability profile. The VITA range of 100% bio-based surfactants enables an increase in the Renewable Carbon Index (RCI) of detergent formulations. Based on bio-based ethylene oxide derived from sugar cane molasses, VITA products are direct drop-in replacements for their fossil-based equivalents, offering identical chemistry and performance. This allows formulators to reformulate existing products toward maximum bio-based carbon content without changing their formulation approach or accepting any trade-off in cleaning efficacy.

Lower CO₂e footprint than fossil analogues

*Clariant has an ISCC PLUS mass-balanced certified monitoring system in place which ensures that the equivalent quantity of sugar cane is used as feedstock for the production of these products. Nevertheless it cannot be guaranteed that the products are made 100% directly from sugar cane.

Toward a more sustainable Home Care portfolio with the Terra range

Clariant's Terra range offers a growing selection of bio-based and mass-balance certified ingredients for Home Care formulations. When "Terra" appears in a product name, it signals a high renewable carbon content, with an RCI of at least 50%. For Home Care formulators, the Terra range provides a practical route to increasing the bio-based carbon content of their products without changing formulation chemistry or accepting performance trade-offs.
